TASSE COFFEEEVENTS

The Tasse Coffee story

A coffee story, told through one cup.

“Tasse” is French for cup. Everything we do — the Hong Kong coffee lab, this events practice, the Tokyo roastery — starts from the same idea: one cup, made properly, can carry culture, craft and opportunity to anyone.

A certified social enterprise, before anything else

Tasse Coffee is a Hong Kong certified social enterprise. From the beginning we have used coffee education to open doors — running skills training for young people, elders, people out of work and people with disabilities, and placing part of our drip-bag packing work with community partners so income reaches those who need a way back in. The coffee volunteer team still visits welfare organisations through the year. It is slow, unglamorous work, and it is the reason the company exists.

To pass on culture through education, and create opportunity through craft.

Tasse Coffee

The people behind it

Candice Ng — Co-founder, Hong Kong

Candice Ng — Co-founder, Hong Kong

Candice found coffee working in cafés on the Gold Coast and in Melbourne, and came home to qualify as an SCA barista trainer. Since 2021 she has also taught on the Employees Retraining Board programme, coaching people who are finding their way back into work. She opened Tasse Coffee in October 2020 — mid-pandemic, two students at a time — and built it into the training campus it is today.

Wing Yuen — Co-founder, Tokyo

Wing Yuen — Co-founder, Tokyo

A design strategist by training, Wing turned to specialty coffee in 2015 and now runs Tasse Coffee Roastery in Takadanobaba, Tokyo — choosing, roasting and cupping every lot himself. An SCA Authorized Trainer, CQI Q Instructor, City & Guilds examiner and championship sensory judge, he is also the author of The Roasting Bible book series, and the bridge between the Hong Kong and Japan coffee communities.
