SCA Barista Skills, adapted for visually impaired learners

Tasse Coffee adapted the SCA Barista Skills Foundation syllabus for students of the Hong Kong Blind Union in March 2026 — the same international standard and the same certificate, taught through touch, sound and structured repetition.

The brief

Could an internationally accredited barista course be taught without sight — without diluting the standard? The Blind Union wanted a real credential for their members, not a simplified taster.

What we did

Our SCA Authorised Trainers rebuilt each module around tactile reference points, audio cues from the machine, and consistent bench layouts — across two full teaching days in March 2026, with the SCA syllabus intact.

The result

A visually impaired cohort trained to the same SCA Foundation standard as any sighted class. We believe this is among the first such deliveries in Hong Kong — and it is the work we are proudest of.
